Ever since my enthusiastic second grade teacher inspired me by talking about Jesus as her life long companion I have yearned for and activity sought a relationship with God because of her passionate teaching a vast hunger for the other opened up in me this quest has never ended i know my journey is not unique in this regard other people have similar longings they too seek a treasured and true friendship with god a closeness requiring constant faithfulness to prayer when publisher Michael leach asked me to consider writing a book on prayers i hesitated my first thought was there must be ten thousand books already written on this topic why would i write another one then i recalled how i continually read book after book related to spiritual growth even though i feel at home with god most of there time.
