R. C. Das wrote thirteen major papers over a five-decade span which are reproduced here. Included is Das` own account of his early Hindu family life and how he was drawn to Christ through the Brahmo Samaj and Christian contacts. Das became a forceful advocate of indigenization (inculturation, contextualization) in light of classical Hindu contexts. But evangelism was his central concern and included in this collection is his seminal booklet on How to Present Christ to a Hindu, which P. Chenchiah opined `contains in a short compass almost the whole of mature Indian Christian thinking on the subject and gives a correct picture of the Hindu religious psychology very rare to get. This is not dated material of purely historical interest. A strong case could be presented that the opinions voiced in these essays are still living and vital on the edges of Christian and Hindu communities in India today. These writings provide a stronger basis for analysing R. C. Das and his perspective on the church and its mission in the Hindu world. I have appended a section of a paper I wrote on Das outlining his teaching on religion and interreligious relations, particularly on the Hindu-Christian encounter, as that theme is particularly significant and appears at different points in these essays.
